What I Wore to Meet Big Sean at His "Go Higher" Book Signing
A monochromatic black look with designer finds and a vintage piece I can't get enough of.
One of my favourite things about living in Los Angeles is the amount of cool events that randomly pop up last-minute. I was scrolling through my Instagram feed one afternoon and saw a post from Book Soup about a Big Sean book signing coming up in a couple of days. As a fan, of course I wanted to go. And as an author, I will always be down to support someone’s bookish dreams coming to fruition.
Once I secured the tickets, it was time to plan a look. However, being a mom of twin toddlers doesn’t always leave me a lot of time to frivolously flip through my wardrobe and come up with something cute. Of course, if I’d had my whole wardrobe entered into Indyx, it would’ve made things easier.
I ended up going with a foolproof combination: black on black on black. The fashion girl go-to. I paired a Dion Lee denim waistcoat with Jacquemus jeans, The Row’s Half Moon bag, Bridge boots from Coperni, vintage earrings, and a thrifted Scorpion moto jacket I’d recently procured from 2nd Street on Melrose. It’s quickly becoming a staple in my wardrobe. I can’t get enough.

Waiting outside in the cold (yes, LA actually gets cold) for nearly 2.5 hours wasn’t on my agenda for the night. My feet were numb in my pointy boots, but at least I didn’t opt for the strappy sandals I’d originally been planning on. The signing was a bit behind schedule, but in the end, worth it.
Big Sean was so nice. Very humble, kind, down to earth. I’m really looking forward to reading his book, Go Higher. Although, with my limited free time, I might listen to the audiobook while I clean up after the twins at night instead of my usual true crime podcasts.
As a fellow author, I’d be remiss not to mention my book. Or, books. My latest is a collection of heartbreaking, humorous, and gut-wrenching short stories called Thirteen Emotions. Then, we have my debut chick lit novel, The Manhattan Mishap. If you love fashion and drama stronger than a dirty martini, pick up a copy today. My books are sold through my bookstore, Amazon, Bookshop, and more.
